My American Experience ~ The Presidential Inauguration 2013

image

Thank you for sharing in my amazing experience ~ the Presidential Inauguration 2013, an American tradition dating back to George Washington. The inaugural weekend filled me with excitement, goodwill, patriotism, and emotion. I will never forget the many people I met from around our nation. The enthusiasm throughout the city was inescapable! As the sun rose over the Capitol and patriotic music filled the National Mall, it was impossible to not truly appreciate the wonder of our democracy. The responsibility to actively participate as a United States citizen is real…what an honor!

Inaugural Ball Photos and Videos

While I was at the Inaugural Ball, I video taped as much as I could so that you could see and hear what I experienced. It was amazing to be at the Ball! The videos are from a distance, because that is as close as I could get due to the large crowd. I hope this gives you a good sense of the event!

The Motorcade at the Start of the Parade – Photos and Video

The President’s motorcade left the Capitol after the luncheon and took their place at the head of the parade. The media trucks drive in front of the President and film his car from the back of their trucks. Members of the military stand guard alongside the beginning of the route near the Capitol.

Note: I was very excited when the President’s motorcade stopped in front of me, so my videotaping was not as steady as I would have liked. Thank you for understanding!

The Swearing-In Photos and Videos

Below are several photos I took during the swearing-in. I have also included videos of the Vice President and President taking the oath of office. I was not able to zoom the video, but you can hear the audio from the platform, as well as the crowd sounds. Please keep in mind that I am videotaping and taking photos at the same time , so please excuse my wandering video at times.

Getting to the Capitol for the Swearing-In

I got up at 3:15 in the morning to get to the Metro train when it opened. I was about the 12th person in one of 6 lines at the start of the Orange Gate. We waited on the street for about an hour and a half before they let us begin to move to the next checkpoint. Everyone was told to not run, so it was power walking time. I got pushed around a bit, but was able to stay standing. At the next checkpoint we were shoulder to shoulder, front to back. I felt very uncomfortable because some people were pushing. At about 6:55 in the morning they let us go through security and get our places by the Capitol.

The First Family Viewing Platform and Pennsylvania Avenue

I walked down Pennsylvania Avenue the day before the Inauguration, which was very exciting. My video is a bit bouncy, as I was trying to avoid bumping into people while I walked, videotaped, and talked. My apologies. I hope you can feel the excitement of the crowd like I did!

The Kennedy Center – Photos and Video Clip

I attended a concert at the Kennedy Center, which was in the Concert Hall. The Kennedy Center Honors is held in the Opera House. There is a sculpture of President Kennedy in the foyer of the building. The Hall of States and the Hall of Nations have flags displayed from the ceiling. I hope you enjoy the photos and video clip.

National Day of Service Photos

I participated in the National Day of Service by packing personal items for active duty service members stationed overseas. It was a wonderful experience! The Vice-President and Dr. Biden had been to this site earlier in the day. The Target dog even stopped by!
