First Inaugural Excerpt -Â January 20, 1981
As for the enemies of freedom, those who are potential adversaries, they will be reminded that peace is the highest aspiration of the American people. We will negotiate for it, sacrifice for it; we will not surrender for it, now or ever.

Student Friendly Version
To the people who do not value freedom and are willing to fight against it, we remind them that peace is the greatest wish of the American people. We, as Americans, will discuss how peace can be achieved, we will give up things we highly value, including our lives; we will not give up our work to achieve peace, now or ever.
